GALE MARIE THOMPSON
This poem is my reckoning with time. So often it feels like I am seeing the death of everything, the ends of everything, that I am living in several timelines at once, and I forget to simply be in the present in this timeline. So I chose my back porch, in the North Georgia Mountains (specifically, Young Harris), a place where I tend to go to separate myself from technology and distractions and exist in the present.
Gale Marie Thompson is the author of Soldier On (Tupelo Press, 2015) and Helen or My Hunger (YesYes Books, 2020). Her third collection, Mountain Amnesia, won the 2023 Colorado Prize for Poetry and will be published in December. Thompson lives in the mountains of North Georgia, where she directs the creative writing program at Young Harris College. @thegalester on instagram, twitter. galemariethompson.com
